Chair: Judge Alex Harland
Room: Ballroom B 3.30 pm – 5.00 pm
When might it be in the best interests of the children to spend time with a parent, even though that parent has been the perpetrator of family violence?
How does one appraise parenting capacity and risk (including risk of ongoing or recurrent family violence), and how does one consider options for parenting arrangements, in settings where the perpetrator appears to have strengths as a parent, and the victim appears to have vulnerabilities?
Can the security and wellbeing of the victim be protected in settings where the children are to spend ongoing time with the perpetrator, and if so, how?
