Chair: Dr Andrew Bickerdike
Room: Ballroom A 1.30 pm – 3.00 pm
This workshop examines the developmental signi cance of early attachment security versus insecurity via meta-analytic associations between early attachment and adaptation across several developmental domains, and gives the rst Australian data on mother and father attachment (and discussed why security doesn’t depend on gender of parent). It will unpack the speci c impacts of inter-parental con ict and violence on attachment security, featuring our new meta-analytic work. The workshop also addresses relevant evidence based interventions for troubled dyads (again featuring new ndings).
Workshop 2 The Role of Lawyers in Dealing with Parental Alienation. Room: Ballroom B

1.30 pm – 3.00 pm
Lawyers have a signi cant role to play where there is parental alienation, or the family appears to be going down that path. Two experienced family lawyers give practical tips and traps for acting for one of the parents where there is or may be parental alienation. Often a lawyer is the rst professional encountered by the parties and those lawyers are in a position to triage the situation and provide practical advice and solutions.
What can, and should lawyers do to ensure they are part of the solution, not part of the problem? Lawyers need to be able to identify the potential problem, and provide practical help to the family - whether they are acting for the alienating parent or the alienated parent and deal with the ethical conundrums that arise. With court resources and urgent hearings hard to get, what other options are there?
