Can any club do it?
Football is an emotive business. Fans and supporters are emotional about their chosen Club. Players are emotional about their performance during and after the game. Club administrations and Boards are passionate and totally involved in their commitment.
But does all this emotion and passion cloud the real issues behind a Club’s success?
Yes it does, unless:
■ sound and pragmatic business
principles are applied
■ careful and determined management techniques exist
■ excuses are rejected and mental toughness all round becomes a priority
■ no one person thinks he or she is ‘bigger’ than the team
■ professionalism is the key
■ statistics rule the roost
■ recruitment is ‘benchmarked’ against the best players in the entire competition
■ everydepartmentisinterdependent, pulls its weight and performs to the highest possible benchmarks.
As Consultant Adviser to the Club, Alex Ruscuklic achieved all of this for East Sydney. His subsequent successes in activities in the wider world of retail, nance, insurance, marketing, and business management in materials handling and heavy industries has equipped him with a unique insight into the business development and marketing sector.
“With Alex on board, things were different right from the outset. He worked to a clearly defined format. He created a template for success. He established six basic operating principles and in sisted that the Club, at all levels, abide by them. I was amazed at the seamless transition of the Club’s fortunes through the application of these six principles.”
Jack Dean President (1970-82) East Sydney FC
“He made a huge impact on our Club — twenty straight victories. East supporters are still indebted to Alex for his remarkable contribution.”
Paul Constance Secretary (1977-86) East Sydney FC
