LOCAL BENDIGO COMPANY DEMONSTRATES
SOUTHERN SHORTHAUL RAILROAD
ON TRACK IN CENTRAL VICTORIA
Originating in 2003 in New South Wales, as a result of the successful management buyout of the former Great Northern Rail Services from CFCL, Southern Shorthaul Railroad (SSR) initially specialized in locomotive refurbishment, railcar manufacture and overhaul, and in being trusted providers of service-oriented, short haul hook & pull railroad solutions using only highly dependable locomotives. From the very start, customer satisfaction has always assumed absolute priority at SSR, along with a commendable preoccupation with safety during all operations.
Today, SSR retains its exemplary reputation and has become an undisputed leader in the field, establishing additional major workshop facilities in Bendigo, Victoria. Here the business currently serves rail customers such as CFCL Australia, Pacific National, United Group Rail, V/Line Passenger and Patrick PortLink.
Services provided at the Bendigo Workshop are comprehensive and include:
Locomotive rebuilds, refurbishments and upgrades; Locomotive component change out and overhauls; Rolling stock new builds, rebuilds and upgrades; Rolling stock and locomotive painting;
Locomotive and wagon bogie overhauls; Prototype building of wagons and components; Locomotive servicing; and
Round-the-clock emergency call out service.
Powering ahead, the expanding niche company has now diversified into heavy steel fabrication – servicing an extensive range of industries and becoming a chief employer of mechanical engineering and steel fabrication expertise in the region.
Having also recently acquired a huge, 10,000-square metre manufacturing facility favourably located on a 17-hectare site in Bendigo, Southern Shorthaul Railroad is now well equipped to augment production and handle overflow situations. The company is fully primed for rapid future growth, with an enhanced capacity to develop new and existing co-operative partnerships (like the Austin Alliance and Bendigo Consortium) to maximize mutual growth and prosperity.
“Most important of all is that we have won the trust and confidence of our alliance partners – some of the most discriminating companies in business and commerce,” says Vin Nally, Director at SSR.
