entire ministry.  He believed, on the authority of the Word of God, that
        Christ Jesus would one day return to earth literally, bodily, visibly, in power
        and great glory. “That same Jesus who went up from the Mount of Olives
        into heaven is coming again to earth in like manner as His disciples saw Him
        go up into heaven. We have His own word for it, and this makes assurance
        doubly sure. Moreover, the great scheme of redemption requires Christ’s
        return. It is a part of that scheme that as He came once with a sin-offering
        to redeem, so He should come a second time without a sin-offering to
        claim the inheritance that He has so dearly bought. He came once that His
        heel might be bruised; He comes again to bruise the serpent’s head, and
        with a rod of iron to dash His enemies in pieces as potter’s vessels. He came
        once to wear the crown of thorns; He must come again to wear the diadem
        of universal dominion. He comes to the marriage supper. He comes to
        gather His saints together. He comes to glorify them with Himself on this
        same earth where once He and they were despised and rejected of men.
        The whole drama of redemption cannot be perfected without this last act
        of the coming of the King.”
          Charles Haddon Spurgeon was a true Mr Valiant-for-Truth, his sword was
        a ‘right Jerusalem blade’ also, the Word of God which he knew well how to
        wield, and by means of which he dealt many shrewd blows against the hosts
        of darkness.  In November, Spurgeon wrote in his magazine:
          “Believers in Christ’s atonement are now in declared union with those
        who make light of it; believers in Holy Scripture are in confederacy with
        those who deny complete inspiration; those who hold Evangelical doctrine
        are in open alliance with those who call the Fall a fable, who deny the
        personality of the Holy Ghost, who call justification by faith, immoral, and
        hold that there is another trial period after death... Yes, we have before us
        the wretched spectacle of professedly orthodox Christians publicly avowing
        their union with those who deny the faith, and scarcely concealing their
        contempt for those who cannot be guilty of such gross disloyalty to Christ.
        To be plain, we are unable to call these things Christian Unions, they begin
        to look like Confederacies in Evil... It is our solemn conviction that where
        there can be no real spiritual communion there should be no pretence of
        fellowship.  Fellowship with known and vital error is participation in sin.”
