P. 2
God so loved the world, that he gave his only
begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him
should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:16
The Christian faith was introduced by
missionaries, to the inhabitants of Sierra Leone
over 200 years ago. The seat of British West
Africa's administration was in Freetown, where
missionaries from England made use of the
opportunity to juxtapose the work with the
gospel of Jesus Christ. The whole gospel they
proclaimed was all summarized in John
Chapter 3 verse 16. This was proclaimed in
school's morning devotion throughout the
nation, and became a house-hold phrase in
the home of school going children. It has cause
spiritual transformation in the lives of multitudes
nation-wide, and it is the bye-word in the lips
of 'babes'. It is the most popular verse from the
Bible in the nation. Someone once said it is
the Gospel in a nutshell.
