NYSAPLS Headquarters at the process of a well-run SPR, the methodology and the way ideas are whittled down into
146 Washington Avenue specific HOT TOPICS and action items to address those topics. It really is an impressive
Land Surveyors Building process that hones down issues by having them pop up again and again in different exercises

www.nysapls.org So, we went into this year’s retreat with five issues that the Strategic Planning Committee
info@nysapls.org and Susan had pre-determined as “HOT TOPICS”:
Editor-in-Chief & 1. Pathways to Surveying (Engaging Diversity and Workforce Development)
        Managing Director
Amber Carpenter 2. Moving forward with MTS
amber@nysapls.org 3. Legislative initiatives of the Association (beyond MTS)
Director of Operations 4. Health of the regionals and member engagement
Heather Schultz 5. Education and other programming for members
        heather@nysapls.org
During the SPR we discussed those five topics and during discussions two more additional
        Administrative Assistant
Sharon O'Brien topics were identified as being “HOT”:
sharon@nysapls.org 6. How can we promote the economic welfare of the profession?
                                               7. How do we make public records more accessible to land surveyors?
The topics were then discussed, and many various ideas were thrown into the ring
Affiliated Associations regarding issues surrounding these topic. Further, ideas were suggested regarding possible
        Allegheny Plateau Association of Profes-

Association of Professional Land Surveyors we worked through the various group talks and exercises. You could see the process

of Greater New York | Delaware-Hudson thoughtful and constructive ideas had been brought to the table and aired out. It was
Land Surveyors Association, Inc | Eastern
New York Society of Land Surveyors, Inc | especially great to see new people getting involved and expressing their thoughts. I
Genesee Valley Land Surveyors Association personally felt that we had an extremely productive couple of days, and I also felt
