CAREER & TECHNICAL EDUCATION
(CTE) provides students with the
academic and technical skills,
knowledge and training necessary
to succeed in a future career and to
become lifelong learners.
In total, about 13 million high school
and college students across the
nation are in a CTE course. CTE
prepares these learners for the world
of work by introducing them to

What is KEC CTE?
KEC (Kishwaukee Education
Consortium) is a career center for
juniors and seniors in high school
that offers 21 career guided classes,
with most having college credit and
high school credit (dual credit).
Students come to KEC for 90
minutes a day, and attend their
sending district for the remainder of
the day. Curriculum at KEC is set
based on business and industry
needs both at the local and state/
federal level.
KEC is a partner for college classes
with Waubonsee Community
College, Kishwaukee Community

academic content accessible to
students by providing it in a
hands-on context.
In fact, the high school graduation
rate for CTE concentrators is about
93%, which is 11% higher than the
national average.
