Less “Cube” & Lower Freight Cost
Means Big Cost Savings
1. Compare equal Poly Mailer size to Carton size. EG: Compare the popular DL
1940 19”x24” .003 Poly Mailer to the approximately equivalent carton 18”x12”x5”.
a. Poly Mailer Carton
b. Size 19”x24”+flap 18”x12’x5” 200 test
c. Net Wt. 0.01 (1/10) lb. 0.75 (¾) lb.
d. Poly Mailers usually do not affect the cost of freight of the product.
2. Packaging Cost: Compare the corrugated carton cost to the equivalent size Poly
Mailer. The carton will always be substantially more costly. The difference could be
substantial.
a. The additional cost to a carton and not a Poly Mailer is:
i. Forming of the carton or additional labor
ii. Tape, Adhesive, or Staples for closure
3. The carton could cost 5 times or more than the Poly Mailer.
4. Freight Cost difference: For example if your customer were to ship 6 sweaters (ea.
weighing 2 lbs.) from Los Angeles to New York via UPS. The sweaters in the Poly
Mailer would weigh 12lbs. The sweaters in the carton would weigh 12.75lbs. UPS
would count it 13lbs.
a. UPS Shipping wt. Poly Mailer 12lbs. Carton 13lbs
i. UPS Chg. $13.97 $14.88
ii. Difference. This Poly Mailer shipped for 91¢ less than the Carton.
b. The 10cs suggested retail price for the DL1940 is $123.00 per case of 250 or
$492.00 per M or 49.2¢ ea. Yes the Poly Mailers Cost 49.2¢ea and just the
additional ¾ lb. of one carton cost an extra 91¢ freight. Additional savings
would be the difference between the cost of the Poly Mailer and carton. As
well as the additional labor for forming and the closure of the carton.
The savings can be huge!!!
