As Figure 2.2 shows, the parameters of particularity, practi- cality, and possibility function as the axle that connects and holds the center of the pedagogic wheel. The macrostrategies function as spokes that join the pedagogic wheel to its center thereby giving the wheel its stability and strength. The outer rim stands for language learning and language teaching. There are, of course, hidden or un- known wheels within wheels—individual, institutional, social, and cultural factors—that influence language learning, language teach- ing, and language use in a given communicative situation.
