Meet Dr Bruce Menzies
February
6 February Clive
Born in 1917 (that’s right he is currently 102 years old!) as one of five
7 February Kay children. He had two brothers and two sisters, who all loved spending
13 February Brenda time on the harbour as a family and was enlisted in World War II in
RANBR from 1939 – 1940.
17 February Robert F.
Dr Bruce Menzies was a general practitioner in Drummoyne who started
19 February Elaine B. his practice in the 1950’s and for over six decades served the
Drummoyne community. Dr Menzies followed in his father’s footsteps
21 February Richard O. and saw his medical practice as a matter of service to the community.
22 February Avis
Dr Menzies amazing contribution to the vaccination of the Drummoyne
community in particular the vaccinations during the polio epidemic are
to be commended, in one day alone he vaccinated 1200 children.
His tireless care for families are praised amongst his patients; He has
delivered babies, then has gone on to care for the children of those
babies he had delivered and the babies of those babies.
He continued doing his home visits for frail and vulnerable patients well
into his late 80s. His continued devotion to aged single men in aged care
hostels who he referred to as old men, even though most of them were
younger than he was, is a testament to the kind of gentleman he is.
Around Bayswater Gardens he is known as a kind and gentle man who
shows concern for everyone he meets and gives everyone the same
courtesy and respect. He is a much‐loved member of our Bayswater
Family. His secret to life… “Having the right parents, the right genes, and
a glass of whisky each night, reading a lot and enjoying cryptic
crosswords to keep my mind active”.
Bruce will soon be featured in the Inner West Courier so please keep
your eye for a write on this amazing human being.
