candlelit dinner at Edelweiss,
in Pennsylvania, picture us
surrounded by Christmas decorations,
thrilled by the Smokies expanding in the horizon.
finally we take the red dirt road
that leads to the cottage, his home
where later we walk in the woods,
watch nature unfold beavers, squirrels, deer
out of hiding.
and at dusk from his deck,
the sun goes down
glorious red on the Alabama river.
