Days 5: Ngorongoro, Serengeti
Enjoy breakfast at the lodge before leaving for central Serengeti with a stop en-route at Olduvai Gorge, site of Louis and Mary Leakey’s renowned archaeo- logical discoveries. Their findings include some of the man’s earliest known ancestral remains. Continue to Serengeti National Park in time for lunch. The drive takes about 4 hours. This enormous park supports every variety of animals imaginable - from large predators such as lion, leopard and cheetah to the smaller herbivores they prey on. Since you are in com- mand of your days we suggest that you discuss with your driver/guide tomor- row’s program so you can take advan- tage of the spectacular game viewing (either morning, full day or afternoon) in Serengeti National Park. Dinner and
overnight at Serengeti Lodge. [B/L/D]
Day 6: Serengeti
As usual breakfast will be served at the lodge. In his book Venture to the Interior, published in 1963, Laurens van der Post wrote: "... The only living things, which look as if they really belonged to it are the Wild Animals. Between the animals and Africa there is an understanding that the human beings have not yet earned...". The area comprised of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Masai Mara Game Reserve and the Serengeti National Park protects the largest and most assorted concentration of wildlife on earth and maintains its natural ecosystem so well that the migratory cycles are kept practically intact. The
Serengeti is the jewel of Tanzania's national parks and one of the greatest conservation areas in Africa. Today you spend the whole day on game drive in this National Park (if that was your choice), which is rich in all different species of animals. To give you a better chance of seeing the big five you will carry a picnic lunch with you and spend all the time in the Serengeti. After your safari, return to the lodge to enjoy your last evening in this “Paradise”. Dinner and overnight at the Lodge. [B/L/D]
Day 7: Serengeti, Kilimanjaro, USA
Enjoy your breakfast and be ready to return to Kilimanjaro’s Airport by road. This is a long drive and you should book a late-night flight out. Alternatively, you can take an optional flight from Seronera airstrip to Kilimanjaro Airport. At the airport board your connecting flight for your return to the USA. [B]
