An Interview with a Class Band Teacher!
Teacher's name: Angelika Poszvek
Name Country: Austria
Name city: Vösendorf
Name school: Musikschule Vösendorf / Volksschule Vösendorf
Why are you a Yamaha class band teacher?
First I’ve heard about Yamaha class bands 17 years ago – and I thought: no, this can’t work….
Then I visited the training from Yamaha – and now I’m having class bands since 2004.
How old are the students you work with in your Yamaha class band?
My students are 8-10 years old.
How is your Yamaha class band classified in the school?
My class band is a cooperation between the music school and the primary school. Our child-
ren have two lessons per week, as subject music.
How is your class structured?
Two music-teachers from the music school (one for brass, one for woodwinds) do the lessons.
There are 16 children with their teacher. The teacher learns an instrument together with the
children.
What method do you use and how do you apply it?
I use “Essential Elements”
What additional material do you use?
There are different pieces for youth band in grade ½ and grade 1
And of course I’m arranging different pieces for my class band.
What is your goal for the students participating in the Yamaha class band?
The children should have fun in playing an instrument. I hope that many of them will come
after the two years of class band to my youth orchestra in the music school.
This Class Band is a good example of cooperation between Music School and Primary school. The
Class Band also joined the Festival in Riva del Garda in April 2019. Angelika Poszvek is also Key
Teacher for Austria with many years of experience.
