Simon Redfern (Sc 75) sees members of the OO Committee and leads the OO Club magazine’s Editorial Board on his thrice yearly trips to Oundle. Otherwise, he is still working for a York company three days a week, doing occasional media monitoring work for UEFA and editing a squash magazine. His son and daughter have either just completed or are planning gap-year travels to various corners of the globe.
Another frequent visitor to Oundle is Robin Horsell (Sc 80), since that is where his uniform business, Schoolblazer, so well-known to Oundle parents, is based. He and wife Amanda have now started a major refurbishment on an impressive house near Masham in the heart of North Yorkshire. I often bump into his brother, Jeremy Horsell (Sc 70), who has recently moved to Harrogate. Also Harrogate-based is Harry Wilkinson (F 12). He is an engineering designer whose work spans masonry to garden furniture, with his recent designs including quality kitchen knives.
My son, as Co-Correspondent, has motivated response from his generation, although as is the modern idiom, their news is short and concise. Harry Hickey
(Ldr 14) has started a wood-fired pizza business called Ready to Roll Pizzas based in North Yorkshire, with regular bookings from various local businesses, as well as private bookings. Sam Proctor (Ldr 14) also helps when they are busy. Sam has just graduated from Edinburgh and will be doing a ski season followed by Sandhurst in September 2019, unless something else “convinces me otherwise!” If there are any old-Laundimerians/OOs in Val d’Isere this season, do get in touch.
Jack Schofield (Sc 15) is literally flying high, having obtained his helicopter licence, and now flies the Bell 206 JetRanger and LongRanger.
Emily Keston (Sn 11) and twin LJ Keston (Sn 11) are still flourishing in the theatrical world as Yorkshire-based children’s casting directors, managers and producers.
Moving down South does seem to be the norm amongst the younger Yorkshire OOs at present. Ben Legard (Ldr 13) has moved into the property world. Harriet Gillett (K 13) has recently graduated from Edinburgh University and is now in the fine art world at Bonhams. Holly Martin (K 13) is currently travelling in Spain after another great year at Teach First, while her sister,
Charley Martin (K 12), is working for HPS, a marketing agency. Chris had a catch-up with her at a recent party hosted by Evie Horsell (L 12), who is also London-based at present. Megan Waind (N 12), who is doing an interesting MSc in Security Studies, makes regular trips home to ‘God’s Own County’.
As for Chris himself, he is a new business manager at Total Jobs, based on the South Bank, with occasional trips to Berlin, given the business is owned by German media conglomerate Axel Springer. He may be living in SW2, but remains staunchly proud of his northern roots – as Ed Addo (F 12) will testify, since they share a house with another Yorkshireman!
My long-standing involvement in the Yorkshire residential property market continues with a new venture in September, in addition to helping my partner, Amanda Guest, behind the scenes with her ever-busy catering business based near Holmfirth. So, with a split life between Harrogate and Huddersfield, I regularly see a core group of West Yorkshire OOs that Richard Ellis (Sn 86), Correspondent for that area, has no doubt listed in his report.
