Jay Cartwright (S 71) reports that his daughter, Joanna Cartwright (W 05), married Tom Draper last September. The celebrations took place at Jay and Julia's home and OOs present were Tim Swinson (Ldr 05), Andrew Bull (L 05), Kate Cranfield (D 05) and Anna Palmer (K 06). Also there were Roger Page (S 71) and Vic Northwood (Honorary OO). After a honeymoon in Italy, Jo and Tom are now living in London and embarking on a modernisation of their house in Earlsfield. Jo is busy working on interior design projects for Nina Campbell, including a mansion in New York.
Jay and Julia attended Grace Cooper's (W 05) wedding in December, and saw Grace's sister, Anna Cooper (W 03), there. Meanwhile, Jay's brother, Philip Cartwright (S 69), and Chunks Bowden (Sc 68) blasted down to Le Mans in Phil's Porsche 993 to watch the 24 Hours race. Phil and Susie continue to enjoy life in Ovington near Winchester, with Susie gaining additional grandchildren with impressive speed! Phil is now the treasurer of the parish council, which keeps him busy. Jay tells me that Phil will be meeting up with John Hyde (S 70) and Edward Waterson (S 69) for some walking in the Derbyshire Dales later this year. As for Jay, he continues with a number of non-executive roles in the investment trust world whilst fitting in trips with Julia to the Seychelles and the USA earlier this year. They also plan a visit to India in November.
After 31⁄2 eventful years in the UK, Tony Wright (Sc 85) has moved with his family to Istanbul, taking on a new risk management role in what is an extraordinary country. Both boys remain in school in the UK, with Alexander thriving at School House. 2019 will be an exciting year, with Jason doing his A levels and Alexander his GCSEs. Sophia started at the British International School in Istanbul in September 2018.
It has been a busy year professionally for Simon Burdess (C 89), as he left

IHG after four years and took up a new post as Director of Food Service and Hospitality at Waitrose. He is very pleased with his role and enjoying being back in retail. The office is only 30 minutes from his home in Yattendon and this is a real revelation after the heavy travel schedule of his last job and years of commuting into London before that.
Simon has met up with many OOs over the last year. At the end of the cricket season he spent a day at Lord’s with Bill Cartledge (G 89), who is running the family business, selling upmarket lodge houses. Simon was fortunate enough to join Tom Harrison (G 89) in the ECB box towards the end of the day. Sadly, Simon Owen (G 89) didn’t make it, but he has seen him a couple of times this year and he has continued to do some great work with his new agency, Wonderhatch. He lives in London.
The rugby season saw Simon Burdess bumping into Ed Rose (S 89) at Twickenham and having a post- match beer. This year Dan Hiscocks (Sn 89) was also there. He is still going strong in publishing and is married to Fi. They live near Amersham with Josh and Teddy. Dan loves powder and goes skiing high in the mountains whenever he gets the chance.
Simon has spent much time fishing with Chris Battye (G 89), as they share a beat on the River Lambourne together. They also spent a great long weekend fishing in Spain and travelled
to Scotland for some salmon-fishing in September.
Randomly, Simon bumped into Jasper Arnold (C 89) whilst cycling through Stamford Dingley. He has also been in regular correspondence with Guy Hodgson (C 85), but they have yet to meet this year. Guy is working in London and is a successful restaurateur.
Simon was also lucky enough to be selected for the Goatees’ cricket team, which is ably captained by Andy Merry (Sn 89). They had a most enjoyable weekend in Suffolk and the team also included Jason Hill (C 89), Rory Marr (C 89), Marcus Frisby (C 89), Jamie Polito (Sc 89), Dick Campbell (Sc 89) and Tom Baldock (S 88). A win was inevitable, but was reliant on some very tasty bowling from Dan Hiscocks and handsome knocks from Dick and Rory.
Later in the year, Simon helped organise a reunion of the Oundle 1st VIII from 1988. They met in the Stewards’ Enclosure at Henley and later had an amazing picnic in the car park. They managed to get Alex Heard (St A 88) over from America, where he is a successful medic in Massachusetts. Guy Biscoe (C 88) also flew in from South Africa. Matthew James (C 88) and his brother, Hugo James (Sc 88), still like to argue and talk over each other. Ed Stone (St A 88), who was the club captain, was also there and made a good toast to their former glories. Dan Hiscocks, Ed Rose and Simon made up the ‘89 ers, but they failed to track down Tom Jones (St A 89). If anybody knows where he is, maybe they can let him know that they may do the same thing next year for the ‘89 crew.
Jason Hill is celebrating 25 years at Savills as Regional Development Director and 18 years of marriage to Jayne. They have three boys – Tom, James and Charlie – and live near Chipping Norton. He is currently renovating an old farm and this is the first year that he has not played a rugby match. He has just holidayed in Menorca with Andy Merry. Andy has just returned from Australia, where he
