NEWS FROM HOME
East Yorkshire & Lincolnshire
By Charles Gillett (St A 79)
News from East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire has been scarce this year, though it was nice to get a response from a few, including John Hinchliffe (N 45) to say he is still around – as are my father, Anthony Gillett (St A 49), Ian North (D 55) and Keith North (D 50), both of whom I know through our shared interest in old cars.
Another old car enthusiast, Geoff Mackrill (B 76), has been actively racing his old cars and surfing regularly, so no change there.
Brothers Peter Allen-Williams (N 66) and John Allen-Williams (N 64) continue to enjoy active retirement, Peter having had a pacemaker fitted to enable
2018 has been the year of extremes here in Ireland. Only a few months ago, in February and early March, most of us were digging ourselves out of the snowfall from the ‘Beast from the East’ and the ‘Pest from the West’. In June and July, though, we have seen temperatures soaring higher than they have for 40 years! In Co. Wicklow, Alistair Yarrow (D 63) informs us that his winter was long and that he was snowed in twice. It was a week before the roads were cleared and that was by a local farmer. Then his poor garden suffered even further with no rain for five weeks, but he is in good health and still active, so no complaints really!
Life in Co. Wexford continues to be busy for me, juggling the fitness business, farming and our little family, but everything is going well. My family in Essex are all well too and we were lucky to have had two new additions to the Gaymer family this year. My sister, Rebecca Savage (K 06), and her husband, Henry, had a little girl called Myrtle in May and my other sister, Katie Jessop-Gaymer (K 04), and her husband, Alex, welcomed their second daughter, Evie, into the world in March.
him to enjoy a month-long camping and four-wheel driving expedition around the North-West of Australia.

On the sporting front, Richard Coney (L 17) has been competing successfully in international eventing at 3* level, coming second at Barbury, and in August represented GB at Haras National du Pin, France. His sister, Hattie Coney (S 15), continues with the choir at UCL, enjoying singing in locations such as Westminster, Cambridge and Ripon.
Closer to home, I keep in touch with John Townend (St A 84), David Bennett-Baggs (D 78), and my daughters, Harriet Gillett (K 13), an artist, and Zoe Gillett (K 16), who is at Oxford Brookes studying Film Production.
expecting another baby in November. Alex is busy being a full-time dad and making some jewellery now as a hobby.
In Northern Ireland we congratulate Robert Henshall (Lx 75), who is delighted and proud to have survived and finished his four-year BSc Applied Archaeology studies. He was awarded first-class honours, which he says somewhat makes up for his lack of academic achievement at school! Unfortunately, he is now awaiting a hip replacement, which puts on hold any digging and planned sailing adventures in Scotland and Ireland. Robert’s cousin, Richard Henshall (St A 75), has been in touch to say that he is well and enjoying life at home and spending time in his place in Portugal.
On a different note, it is with great sadness that we report the death of my predecessor and great Old Oundelian advocate, Frank Storrs (St A 50). Frank passed away on 16th September 2017, very suddenly and quickly, in Letterkenny Hospital, after bravely fighting his increasing illness.
Michael Armstrong (Ldr 55), a good friend of Frank and his wife, Erica, tells us that Frank was a stalwart member of
