Week 2 hand analysis

        Hand 1
So, East/West have the majority of
                                                             Í 9 7 3
the points and East becomes the declarer. Ì 8 5 4
        With 27 points between us this looks like Ë Q J 8
        a game hand but let us have a little think Ê Q 10 9 5
                                                 Í K 4 2 Í A 6
        and remember P. L. P.
                                                 Ì K 6 2 Ì Q J 10 9
            Counting our quick tricks by power. Ë 7 4 3 Ë A K 6 2
        We have 2 in spades, 2 in diamonds and 2 Ê A K 8 7 Ê 6 4 2
        in clubs. 6 in total. Í Q J 10 8 5
            Counting our slow tricks by power we 5 Ì A 7 3
                                                 13 14 Ë 10 9 5
have 3 hearts once the Ace has gone. so
                                                      8 Ê J 2
the total is now 9 and we should "go
        game".
Let us do our work early and then we can relax. Whatever is led, (it
should be the ÍQ) we will win and play a heart to the King. We keep on
playing hearts until, either the ace is played or we have 3 tricks in the suit.
We will regain the lead on the next trick at worst and cash our 9.

Notice that in developing (setting up) our tricks we have to lose the
lead but we do it early when we know that regaining the lead will be easy.

Hint: Do not be afraid to lose the lead so long as you are sure of
        getting it back quickly.

        Hand 2 Í A K 5
            North/South have 22 points between Ì 10 4 3

            We have 2 slow tricks by power in Í 4 3 2
