Alf was still very attached to his parents. Where I am now, 42 Laurel Street, Willoughby, is home.

               Alf’s grandparents built it in the 1930’s I think. It’s called Merton after the place Grandy came
               from in England. I moved into this house in 1989 or thereabouts. It had sat in disrepair since

               Bessie, Alf’s mother, died in 1975. Alf and I did it up and extended. It was a bit of a battle getting
               it all done as Alf always put things off. But in the end we finished and moved in. I love this home –

               it’s history, the gardens I’ve made and the memories. I want to stay in this home until I die.

            I find my religion is familiar and a tradition. As I get older it’s a lovely comfort. I like going to

            church. I like the service mostly and meeting up with people socially after church. My Catholic faith
            has always been there at the base of my life. I mostly go to church with Claire. I’ve taught scripture

            to children for years and help at Matthew Talbot men’s home serving food with Claire. I’ve always

            tried to follow what my religion and God would want me to do.
