P. 23
A final word from Kate
This is a very typical shot of Mum: a soft pink or pastel top and bottle
green tartan trousers, a sheer pastel floral scarf at her neck as always
looped around and tied in the ‘Gwennie’ way, small gold and pearl
earrings with often a matching gold chain around her neck and the scent
of Imari cream perfume always lingering on her body and in her home.
Mum, baking in the kitchen when I arrive each week, or sweeping up
leaves in the back yard or gutters out front, or arranging pink geraniums
and tiny roses in a vase for the middle of the table with people due for
lunch or dinner, or perhaps to stay over.
Mum, sitting on the front veranda with a cuppa, chatting with passing
neighbours or any passers-by at all, or dozing in her chair watching tele
out the back, or perhaps just popping down to Claire’s, over to Anne’s,
down the street, up to church or High Street Markets or to ‘Chatsy’.
Always on the go my Mum, always doing, fixing, cooking, sewing,
cleaning, helping. Always ready to ‘go with the flow’.
Always a smile. Always kindness.
Love her forever,
Kate
