India has several national symbols that represent its rich culture, history and
values.

Here are some of the most important national symbols of India.

1. National Flag (Tiranga): The Indian national flag has three horizontal stripes of
saffron, white and green, with the Ashoka Chakra, a 24-spoke wheel, in navy blue
at its centre. It shows the diversity and unity of India.

2. National Anthem (Jana Gana Mana): Written by Rabindranath Tagore, ‘Jana Gana
Mana’ is India’s national anthem. It was adopted as the national anthem in 1950
and is sung on various national occasions.

3. National Bird (Peacock): The Indian peacock is India’s national bird. It is known for
its colourful feathers and graceful dance. It represents beauty, grace and elegance.

4. National Flower (Lotus): It is a symbol of purity, beauty and grace. It has cultural
and religious importance in Indian traditions.

5. National Fruit (Mango): It represents abundance, prosperity and fertility. It also
holds cultural significance in Indian cuisine and traditions.

6. National River (Ganga): The Ganga is very important for Hindus and is considered

sacred. It has great religious and cultural significance.
