Reflecting ad Translating Modulus Functions
REMEMBER:
For a function y = |x|
•
•
If you want to sketch y = |x + h|, it results in shifting the graph horizontally by h units.
For example, y = |x – 4| will shift the graph right by 4 units.
f(x) f(x) = |x – = 4|
|x|
If you want to sketch y = |x|+ h, it results in shifting the graph vertically by h units.
For example, y = |x| + 4 will shift the graph down by 4 units.
f(x) = |x|
f(x) = |x| – 4
