The overlapping area is the solution to the inequalities.
The area marked by the black triangle is the solution of the inequality.
REMEMBER:
• Use the following steps to graph an inequality in two variables:
Step 1: Solve the given inequality for y.
Step 2: Solve the inequality as a linear equation and draw the graph of the linear equation.
When the inequality does not have an equal to sign (< or >), use a dashed or dotted line because the solution can never lie on the line.
When the inequality does have an equal to sign (≤ 𝑜𝑟 ≥), use a solid line because the solution can never lie on the line.
Step 3: Shade the area which satisfies all the equation.
Step 4: The solution set is the overlapping area of all the inequalities.
• A system of inequalities has no solution when there is no overlapping area.
