space, to carry out necessary studio prac ce for designing a public building with a simple architectural program in accordance with a design idea, to understand the rela on be-
tween the spa al organiza on of a building and its design of structural system, to introduce different techniques for presen ng the project. R
AR201 involves the design of a mixed-use building while exploring the intersec ons of material, experience and space. The course covers body/material/space rela ons both
in public and individual spaces. The course will have two major parts; star ng with a short conceptual study to understand the studio problem, students are then expected to

The students will design a healing space at the given sites in Çeşme. Çeşme is an Aegean town which is located at the western end of Karaburun Peninsula. It is one of the most
important se lement in the Aegean region with its historical remains, tourism resorts, beaches and the seaside. There are thermal springs around and serve for yach ng and
surfing ac vi es. Keeping in mind the touris c image of Çeşme, and ques oning it as part of the studio discussions, the students are expected to discuss on the poten als of 21

Çeşme as a place of healing. Therefore, there is a need to provide a public awareness for healing prac ces within the par cular sites by connec ng above topics with the unu-

sual condi ons of the country’s and worlds’ agenda. R
The studio works must take into considera on and solve the spa al arrangement of public and private ac vi es, spa al rela ons, and their integra on with the urban context. A
Three sites are selected at the city center of Çeşme. Site A is located along the seashore in front of the main square of Çeşme and very near to the Çeşme Castle. It is a part of
the seashore pedestrian promenade. Site B is located within the borders of the inner city and historical area on Atatürk Boulevard and very near to the Courthouse of Çeşme.
And finally, Site C is located at very beginning of the city entrance and surrounded by historical castle and caravanserai.
