COURSE DESCRIPTION
This sec on of the AR201 studio was an effort in research-based design, focused on ecological design at the urban scale and at the building scale. The project site is a large open

SITE ANALYSIS
Students worked in groups of three to study the se lement of URLA and its surrounding region and present in a PPT.

The students worked together to create a model and technical drawings of the project area.

The students also worked together to develop the PROJECT PROGRAM. Goals of the project were:

Students were allowed to determine the quan ty of each element of the Program, and addi ons were permi ed. Proposals are expected to demonstrate understanding of the

local condi ons, such as climate, slope, exis ng pedestrian ways, vehicular routes, community needs, and func ons of neighbor buildings. Proposals are expected to be original,
innova ve, and appropriate to the context. Proposals should include a preliminary structural grid and basic climate adapta ons. All areas of the site should be accessible to all
people. The proposed design should contribute posi vely to the local ecology.
