                                        Shanghai. Home to a significant mari me cultural heritage, Ro erdam is s ll an important node in the global networks of trade and travel.

                 This year you are expected to work on a “Mari me Travel Research and Informa on Center” in Ro erdam. The center will be located in Kop van Zuid, on the old inner
                 T i                                                                                                                                               G
                 port (Rijnhaven) of the Niuwe Maas, which is the Dutch arm of the River Rhine. Located across the river from the city center, Rijnhaven is now part of the developing cen-  EI  S
                 tral business district of the city as the old port and the adjoining parts of the city has been transformed in the last three decades. Rijnhaven was the center of early 20th
                 century transatlan c travel where large transatlan c cruisers would dock in and depart from, especially well-known for the cruisers that le  for New York. The historic   D

                 hotel on site, Hotel New York, took its name a er these trips and is now a favorite des na on for tourists. The new center saw the realiza on of many important buildings   A   L
                 and landmarks designed by well-known architecture offices. The new cruise port also operates on the site. This semester the studio will be run on two main phases. In the
                 first phase you are expected to work in groups. Taking advantage of remote teaching and the massive availability of digi zed informa on on Ro erdam, you should collect   R
                 the necessary data, analyze the site and prepare a conceptual framework for the project as part of your group work. In the second phase you will be working individually,

                 The approximately 6,000 sqm building programme, which will be finalized in the studio a er our discussion, will include an auditorium and a mul -purpose hall, that
                 should be equipped to serve for the social func ons of the center such as interna onal scien fic mee ngs, group briefings etc. Suppor ng func ons should include gastro-  I
