and begins to enter it.
BOB
Please don’t do that, Albert...uh, Mister Dreyfuss. We
have no grounds to—
Dreyfuss pulls the cell door
shut.
BOB
I asked you not to do that, Albert...
DREYFUSS
I know what you’re thinking . . . You’re thinking,
“You could’ve gotten yourself killed.” I know that. Do
you think I don’t know that? But I had to do it. I had
to take that risk. The very existence of our democracy
depends on it.
The phone rings. Ray answers
it, speaks briefly, and
exits.
What? Do you think I’m exaggerating? Do you think I’m kidding? This is no joke. I am dead serious. Our country is in trouble. Our Republic is at risk. Our very lives are very——
Making the “off with his
head” gesture.
Kaput. And you just stand there. Or sit there——or
whatever it is that you’re doing, watching me.
I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking,
“He’s crazy. He’s off his nut.” But I’m not. I have
special insight. I know what’s going down. You don’t
need a weatherman to know which way the wind
blows—know what I mean?
Licking his index finger, he
sticks it up in the air.
I know which way the wind is blowing. If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem, right? I am part of the solution. I AM the solution.
