Like what—he’s having a secret affair with Jane Fonda,
maybe?
BOB
Maybe not that. Have there been any changes at his
job? Or maybe money problems?
MRS. DREYFUSS
None that I know of. But I can think of one thing . .
.
What’s that?
BOB
MRS. DREYFUSS
When a man gets to a certain age, he realizes he is
running out of time. He looks back at his life and, if
it’s not filled with the sense of accomplishment he
dreamed of having as a kid, it can leave him feeling
kind of empty. It can make him want to achieve
something in a hurry.
I know what you mean . . .BOB
mentally.
MRS. DREYFUSS
I worry about him. He’s a kidney donor. It happened
quite a few years ago, and Albie insisted it be
anonymous. You see, he has the rarest blood type so
his donation was quite a gift to someone. But I worry
that if he’s ever injured in a crowd, at one of these
crazy protests . . . You see what I mean, Officer?
Detective—Vogellus, is it?
BOB
Huh? . . . Oh, yes, he could be at risk . . .
MRS. DREYFUSS
He begins to drift off
