the same, except the eyes were blue instead of red. Madam Cohen’s face was etched with apprehension, eyeing the young couple as if they were criminal suspects. As much as homosexuality wasn’t legal, they hadn’t been caught yet. In the tense atmosphere, everyone quietly stayed seated at the table.
“Why are these rings matching? They look like engagement rings, but you’re both women.”
“Well, we can explain–” Stelara started, but she was interrupted.
“What’s the problem with it?”
Stressed and flustered, Ziva blurted out the first thing that came to mind. They had spent the past year engaged to the wonderful person that is Stelara, and the two were courting each other long before that. If loving someone was wrong, then why would it feel so right?
“It’s illegal, Ziva. That’s the issue.”
“If I were a man, would it be okay?”
Madam Cohen’s face dropped. All of the anger
seemed to drain. She placed the rings on the table and schooled her face.
“What do you mean by that? Does it have to do with what you’re wearing?”
Ziva looked at their clothes. Like always, they had on a shirt and trousers. Madam Cohen probably also saw
