Human Canvas
Amelia MacNeil
It’s eight o’clock in the morning. I toss and turn in bed, trying to make the decision to finally get up. My first class isn’t until ten o’clock. Some would make the choice to sleep longer. Some don’t spend the time sitting at their desk, applying creams and gels and powders, with extreme detail and attention. I paint my face, smearing a matching colored cream across my skin, blending until an outside viewer won’t notice where the face ends and the foundation
begins, sculpting and carving and highlighting and shadowing until my masterpiece has the dimension I desire, painting an eyelid with bright, neon colors like a canvas hanging in the Museum of Modern Art, darkening and shaping the eyebrows until they're just right, setting all of the work I just completed because if not, a single drop of sweat could ruin all of the effort dedicated to my creation. A lot of people argue makeup is a simple everyday process but I believe it’s an art form that takes attention, precision, and passion.
