3.2. Competency Maps Production
In this paper, 14 parameters were considered as influential parameters in land use changes as follows:
• Digital elevation model
• Slop
• Population
• Aspect
• Distance to residential areas
• Distance to green space
• Distance to agriculture
• Distance to wasteland
• Distance to the exit of the city
• Distance to dense urban areas
• Distance to river
• Distance to roads
• Distance to villages
• Distance to fault
Fig. 2 shows some of these independent factors for 2002.

Numerous studies, such as[6], have shown that it is better to use natural logarithm and square root transformations for
independent linear factors when modelling urban expansion. In this study, the natural logarithm transformation was used for the
distance from the roads and the square root transformation was used for the distance from the river (see Fig. 3).
