CHAIR’S LETTER

                                            Carl Lathan

Happy May to each of you and WELCOME to our newest members!
May is here and I am very excited about it. Why? Thanks for asking! It is because April was so much fun with all the great Chamber events going on and I know there
are many more planned for May. Please check out the Calendar of Events and make your plans now to attend at least 5 events.

Did you know: The Transcontinental Railroad was the first continuous railroad line across the United States and opened for through traffic on May 10, 1869, when Central
Pacific Railroad President Leland Stanford ceremonially drove the gold “Last Spike” at Promontory Summit. Railroads would remain the main form of moving people
and goods throughout the United States at least until the advent of the airlines that usurped the bulk of personal travel.

May Day 2022, also known as International Workers’ (Labour) Day or Workers’ Day, will be celebrated all over the world on May 1, 2022. The aim behind observing this
day is to draw people’s attention towards the labor in their countries. Other than commemorating the contributions of workers, May Day is also related to many historic
labor movements worldwide. In the United States and Canada, a similar observance, know as Labor Day, occurs on the first Monday of September.

Memorial Day (May 30, 2022). Let us honor those who died serving in the United States military. In the United States, Memorial Day weekend kicks off the start of our
summer season and Labor Day weekend ending the summer. We enjoy the privileges of today because of those who sacrificed their lives.

I hope each of you will enjoy a safe summer filled with family and friends. Please support your local businesses and historical sites.
Please remember you are part of a Chamber that cares about you, your business, and the community. In order for the Chamber to be successful, YOU must be success-
ful. Our success is greatly determined by your participation in our Chamber events. Education, socialization, networking, fun and so much more can be obtained if YOU
will only participate. I look forward to seeing you soon.

     Carl
