‘Britain in Colour’ follows the hugely successful ‘America in Color’ – one of the most ambitious colourising projects ever undertaken. This new three-part series brings the past to life by putting the color back into Britain’s 20th century history. ‘Britain in Colour’ covers one of the most rupturing periods in Britain’s existence - from intimate film of Queen Victoria at the end of the 19th century, to home movies of Britons enjoying the luxury of colonial life under the Raj, to a 60-year-old Churchill losing his shorts in the swimming pool. The series recovers lost images of this period - of wars, depression and social revolution - and brings them freshly rendered to the TV screen for the first time.
Through the eyes of host Julie Montagu, Viscountess Hinchingbrooke, viewers will receive an all-access pass to the amazing architecture, aristocratic inhabitants, priceless treasures and best-kept secrets of some of the United Kingdom’s most impressive estates. Each hour-long episode will follow Viscountess Hinchingbrooke as she visits one of these lavish homes – from Gloucestershire’s Sudeley Castle to Scotland’s Inveraray Castle. Montagu will go beneath the skin of these finely crafted buildings as she discovers the lifestyles of the current owners, staff and craftspeople responsible for maintaining every exquisite detail for future generations, and then uses these lessons to enhance her husband’s own historic family estate in Dorset – Mapperton.
