Wintertime, high up north: glittering frost and drifting snowflakes. It’s a time to rest, save energy and take life slow. Or is it? Wintertime in Earth’s northern hemisphere simply means one thing – it’s summer in the southern half of our planet! From snow-white wallabies in eastern Tasmania to the well-adapted wolverines and grey jays, all of nature celebrates life on a wild, silent Christmas night.

A lifelong study by one pioneering scientist has opened our eyes to the secrets of primate society. Now, the story of his discoveries and of this unique group of monkeys can be told in full. ‘A Life Among Monkeys’ tells the story of Smithsonian primatologist, Dr Wolfgang Dittus, through the unfolding narrative of the lives of the toque macaques monkeys, living among the spectacular ruins of an ancient temple in the heart of the Sri Lankan jungle. We encounter a complex hierarchy, inhabited by cute but naive newborns, politically savvy matriarchs and warring males, captured in rich archive film and contemporary 4K footage. ‘A Life Among Monkeys’ combines immersive natural history storytelling with a fascinating journey of scientific discovery.

A narrow ribbon of gallery forest lines the banks where the Cuiabá, the Corixo Negro and the Three Brothers rivers meet. Herds of capybara wade in the shallows while caiman stealthily glide by. Hiding in the bushes, silently watching it all, are the jaguars. This film follows the lives of a handful of these iconic big cats that live in an area of the Pantanal known as Jaguarland. Not only can more jaguars be seen here than anywhere in the world, they are also the largest. These remarkable predators are up to twice the average weight of jaguars elsewhere. Elusive as they can be, the cats emerge when it’s time to hunt. Caiman and capybara are their favourite food, which means they’ll have to get wet, but with beaches of golden sand lining every bend in the river, there are plenty of places to lie in the sun and dry off. This is where the jaguars relax, hunt and find potential mates.

Kanga Pan: An African Horror Story is a spine-chilling, wildlife documentary. A relatively unknown waterhole in Mana National Park is the gathering point for a melting pot of wildlife species. On the surface, all looks peaceful, offering the cool refreshment of water and bathing. But there is a hidden terror lurking in the shadows, a predator tormenting a multitude of wildlife species that come to quench their thirst. Who is the killer on the loose? Who is terrorising the pan?
