Borneo’s varied habitats, from the world’s oldest tropical rainforest’s to some of its largest cave systems, have fuelled the evolution of the most bizarre and enigmatic wildlife on our planet. This is a realm of giant apes, pygmy elephants and air- breathing fish, where over 15,000 different species of plant grow. From the coast to the island’s highest point, Mount Kinabalu, rising over 4,000 metres, Borneo, Earth’s ancient isle, is a place quite unlike any other.

The British back garden is a familiar setting, but underneath the peonies and petunias is a much wilder hidden world, a miniature Serengeti, with beauty and brutality in equal measure. In this documentary, Chris Packham and a team of wildlife experts spend an entire year exploring every inch of a series of interlinked back gardens. They want to answer fundamental questions: how much wildlife lives beyond our back doors? How good is the great British garden for wildlife?
For many years Borneo’s diminutive forest elephants were believed to be a feral population from domestic stock. DNA testing has confirmed they are a unique species. This story tells of one man’s mission to save these persecuted beasts from poachers. Following Bert the tracker, we witness some incredible footage revealing the most intimate secrets of elephant family life.

We are transported to the largest wetland on Earth, The Pantanal. Over 4,700 species of plants and animals are packed into an area the size of Kansas, making this place home to South America’s highest concentration of tropical wildlife. During the dry season one lake refuses to dry up, becoming a true oasis for the wildlife around.

Most visitors to South Africa’s National Parks are not lucky enough to witness a lion kill or a glimpse of a leopard. But they are guaranteed to see the stars of this show: the naughty wildlife that has made the park’s camps their territory – The Trash Can Clan! Here the camp-dwelling animals take centre stage - from squirrels stealing crumbs to monkeys executing burglaries - we follow the exploits of Kruger National Park’s regulars.
