Macam Modifier Penjelasan dan Contoh
Pre-modifier

Determiner Dibedakan menjadi: predeterminer, central determiner, dan post determiner.

Adverb Very, too, so
Adjective Dapat digunakan lebih dari satu dengan mengacu pada urutan tertentu
(adjective order): smart, messy, hot, etc
Participle Dapat present participle (drinking, sleeping, etc) atau past participle dimana
berperan seperti adjective
Noun Berperan seperti adjective
Post-modifier
Adjective Khusus untuk head berupa indefinite pronoun (someone, somebody,
something) atau kasus tertentu (postpositive adjective
Prepositional phrase Preposition + object of preposition: on the table, about you, from him, etc.
Participle (phrase) Present participle (standing beside the fireplace, driving with the lights on,
etc) atau past participle (left without notice, stored away from chemicals,
etc)
Infinitive (phrase) To eat, to read, etc
Relative clause Who make me laugh, which is the oldest language, etc

Head pada complex noun phrase dapat berupa

 noun (student, cat, job, sugar, cheese, tolerance, etc)
 pronoun (umumnya hanya dapat ditambahkan post determiner)

 number, yaitu: ordinal number (first, second, third, etc), general ordinal (next, last,
previous, subsequent, etc), atau cardinal numbers (hanya dapat ditambahkan post-
determiner: one, two, ten, etc)

 adjective (rich, poor, beautiful, etc)

Example:
- a very small school in this country that was built in 1980
Keterangan:
 premodifier “determiner” a + “adverb” very + “adjective” small
 head “noun” school
 post-modifier “prepositional phrase” in this country + “relative
clause” that was built in 1980
