  ABOUT US AND OUR HISTORY
The Santiam Canyon Stampede was built on the local tradition of strengthening the community through volunteerism. The Santiam Canyon Stampede was established in 1997 as a PRCA sanctioned rodeo. Following the 1999 season the rodeo was purchased by community members (the Board) and re-organized as a nonprofit corporation. The reorganization produced the Stayton/Sublimity Rodeo Association, Inc. as the new owner of the Santiam Canyon Stampede.
The end of the 2010 season saw another change for the Stampede. The Stampede made the move to become an NPRA sanctioned rodeo starting in 2011 rodeo season. It has proved to be a great decision! The Stayton and Sublimity communities have a rich civic history of local residents joining together time and time again to raise the funds or resources required to fulfill a community need. The Stampede was established for the purpose of building on that long standing tradition, strengthening the community through volunteerism. We have made an effort to help out other groups and needs when we can by supplying man power.
Giving back is the number one reason why we produce the Stampede. It is the combination of the effort from all our volunteers and the Board, along with the financial support from our sponsors that make the Stampede possible. We are proud to give back to our local community and the outlying area by supporting many other non-profit groups and causes. . In addition to any money that is distributed by the rodeo association to other local nonprofit organizations, we also give donations of Rodeo Tickets and other Stampede items to groups for use in their fundraising efforts. As the Santiam Canyon Stampede continues to prosper, so will our community, its residents and the sport of rodeo.
It is now and has always been so important to us to value everyone. We always say that we value our partners and volunteers and try to always take
good care of them! We do this because we know we cannot do the Stampede without either of these groups of people. We call our people family because that is how we feel about them; we have built those relationships that way and the rodeo itself. Through the years we have always kept our core values at the center of every choice we have made. We have stepped out in some new and different directions. By being willing to do this, we have been leaders to other rodeos in our association.
Here at the Stampede we have found that we have had to be willing to adapt to situations, be it the economy taking a dive for everyone, or to changing associations, or investing in going to conventions to network and better understand our sport, or adding events that not everyone else was doing, finding new ways to work with people, creative ways to make our people feel a part, just to name a few things. The Stampede has done this year after year, changing, growing, and doing whatever it takes to keep the event financially sound and moving forward, to stay viable and current with the times. As Board we feel we are responsible for all aspects of the rodeo. We do everything from planning to clean up and do not ask anyone to do anything we would not do ourselves. We feel we need to lead by example. Over the years this has cultivated a strong and committed work force.
