Perpetual Followership
Your Fear
You are worried that imitation will make you a perpetual follower of the leader and not give you the opportunity to be your own person.
Your Gain
Imitation is primarily intended to mould your character into that of God's, and that isn't something to ever depart from as long as you live.
But true leadership does not encourage perpetual followership. Rather the joy of the eagle is the joy of grooming the eaglet and setting it free at the right time to "soar" higher than it could possibly do. That's the joy of true leaders.
