SANCTIFY THEM WITH YOUR TRUTH This question is worth seeking an answer to especially since Jesus acknowledged in John 17 as well that He had given the disciples the word of God, they had received it and kept it. If they already had the word why pray that they be sanctified with the word? It seemed that they had already been sanctified by the word! Hear what Jesus said in two specific instances around the same time from these scriptures: John 17:6-8 NKJV “I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. \[7\] Now they have known that all things which You have given Me are from You. \[8\] For I have given to them the words which You have given Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that You sent Me. John 15:1-3 NKJV “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. \[2\] Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. \[3\] You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. 31.
