BULLSEYE PRAYERS In verse 3 of John 15, Jesus confirmed that the disciples had already received the word of truth and were clean as a result of that. In effect, they had already come into the era of fruitfulness in their lives. They were already considered to be bearing fruit. However, like we saw earlier, it is not only important that each of us bear fruit, it is equally important that we continue to bear fruit. It is an integral part of God’s requirement that our fruit should remain. For our fruit to remain we must bear fruit continually and watch over the fruit that we are bearing so that nothing happens to them. If something destroys the fruit that we have borne, then our fruit will not remain and we may well be back to square one, having no proof of our fruitfulness remaining on the earth. Notice from John 15:2 that every time we bear fruit, the Father prunes us so that we can bear more fruit. That is, we are prepared and empowered to keep going forward and making greater impact. The fruitfulness expected of us is a continuing process and not a once-and-for-all accomplishment at some point in time on the earth. So continuity is required for us to fulfil our mandate. This continuity cannot be assured without the continuous flow of the word of God! This is why the prayer of Jesus became necessary. 32.
