SANCTIFY THEM WITH YOUR TRUTH prayers that God expects to hear from the saints. We all have ‘disciples’ that need to benefit from this prayer. The request to sanctify the saints is to clean them up with the word of God and to set them free. The word of truth sets free according to John 8:32. All saints need to be cleaned up thereby making us free from every inhibition of sin. Jesus prayed for our true freedom from sin and iniquity but through the word of God, since it is the word that cleans. This state of freedom from sin and cleanliness is the state in which Jesus wants the church to be at all times, and indeed, when He returns. In Ephesians 5:27, it is the state of glory characterised by not having “any spot or wrinkle or any such thing”, being “holy and without blemish.” This is what Jesus was praying that God should accomplish in the lives of His disciples and that includes us. Ephesians 5:25-27 NKJV Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, \[26\] that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, \[27\] that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. 35.
