FATHER, I THANK YOU The prayer of thanksgiving works. It is powerful. The nature of the challenge notwithstanding, it pays to have a grateful heart like that of Christ. Active in His Prayer Closet One thing that we must note here is that Jesus prayed these prayers in the open and to the hearing of everyone. It would appear that when push came to shove, he resorted to a prayer of thanksgiving in the open. However, we also know that He did pray other prayers and especially was very active in his prayer closet. He often separated Himself to pray for some time, through the night on various occasions. While these prayer sessions must also have included praise and thanksgiving, the discussions in other chapters showed that he had other things that preoccupied Him in the prayer closet. The point that I want to leave with us here is that it would appear that Jesus, having prayed rigorously on the issues of priority to God in His prayer closet, tended to simply offer prayers of thanksgiving when He came face-to-face with challenging situations. 71.
