PCLL INTERIM DIRECTOR

Stephen Seeley was my pick to be the
buying books that help attorneys practice
Law Library Director when I retired
law. I'll buy books about trial preparation
in 2022. I had been Director for 23
and jury tactics, for example and books
years, and was excited to leave the library
on law office management. A book on
in his hands.
legal forensics was just donated to the
Library. We love donations!
Funny how things worked out. Stephen
has moved on to a different position
he relished, and I am now Stephen’s
successor as Interim Director. I am
assigned to find my successor once again.
Stephen used his organizational skills to
leave the library a much more organized
business than I left it. That leaves me free
to focus on my first love as a law librarian:
collection development and acquisitions.
Perhaps it was my years spent practicing
law before becoming a librarian that
brought me to this specialty. I love
buying books and messing around with
their organization on the shelves. I am
excited that I am back and get to use my
collection skills again.
The library already has a great collection
of research materials. My fun will be
I also love legal biographies and the
autobiographies of great legal thinkers
and books about legal theory. I also love
legal fiction just for the fun of it. Whether
a mystery or thriller, legal fiction adds
humor and suspense to the day, and
maybe some imagination to closing
arguments.
It isn't any good to have a great bunch
of good books if they aren't organized
for easy access. I plan to move our
Washington materials to the front of
the library where they are easily found.
Deskbooks, WA treatises, Washington
Practice and the RCWA will all be
shelved together. On the other hand,
legal fiction will be shelved in our
comfortable reading corner at the back of
the library. Nolo Press and other self-help

books will be somewhere in-between. I
know attorneys secretly love them and
pro-se’s need them.
We’re looking forward to revitalizing our
three branch libraries which I started
back in 2018. I hope the new director
after me cares about that project as much
as I do. We also hope to start creating
self-help videos and sponsoring CLEs
soon too, provided we have some attorney
volunteers.
I fear my interim position will expire
before I've finished having fun. I love the
collection work but also helping patrons
at the front desk. I've only been back for
one week and I'm already dreading my
last day. I hope the next director loves the
Library as much as I do. Please send me
your book suggestions and we'll try to
honor them.
