BAR CONVENTION
Highlight for Kidz Highlight for Kidz By Judge Anneke Berry
As the 29th Annual Bar Convention
approaches, we are inviting attendees
to bring their families and participate
in the New ‘Kidz Bar Program’. During the
October 11th sessions, families can experience
a fresh take on learning, entitled “The Power
Within”. As kids participate in these sessions,
they will reveal their power within through art, argument and
action. There will be three sessions offered: two during the
concurrent morning sessions
and one in the afternoon.

Doodling and Story
Telling with Chris Britt
The first session honors
the importance of story-
telling and teaches the
delightful art of doodling.
In a fast-food and even
faster information-accessible
world, we invite you to take
a breath and slow down.
Doodle with the nationally
award-winning cartoonist and children’s book author Chris
Britt. “The permission to ‘free-draw’ keeps your brain online…
paying continuous attention
places a strain on the brain,
and doodling may be just the
break your brain needs to
keep attending without
losing total interest.”

Next, expand your child’s
vocabulary and imagination by
attending the reading of Chris
Britt’s latest book, “Lost in a
Book.” While it is universally
recognized that reading aloud to
children has benefits, here are a
few specific reasons to spend
a little time each day between
the ‘covers:’ vocabulary
building, improving
comprehension, increased attention
span, expanding memory recall,
introduction of problem solving
and critical thinking skills, and
(of course) DEVELOPING
IMAGINATION! To
commemorate the experience,
each family in attendance will
receive a signed copy of this
book by the author!

the power, my dear,
you just had to learn it
yourself.’ ~ Glinda
Reveal your Brain
Judicial System Matters:
Building Civic Awareness
in Children
Adult vs. child?!?!?! In the
second session, join me, Judge
Berry of the Buckley Municipal
Court, for an interactive
development and presentation
of oral arguments. In a world
where the judicial system is
discussed daily, help the next generation reveal their inner
ability to take an active role in shaping their communities and
the world around them. We hope to ignite curiosity, critical
thinking, and a sense of civic responsibility. Kids can reveal
their brain power by developing and presenting an argument,
participating as a judge or member of the jury, or simply
observing the process and enjoying the show. You are invited
to share your favorite way to teach justice in your home!
