• Service by a New Attorney Award: Lauren Romero was
honored for her remarkable work in Eviction Defense, Family
Law, and Veterans’ Advocacy, along with her volunteer efforts
with various organizations. (more about Lauren on page 32)
• Community Service Award: John Cummings received an
award for his volunteer efforts with organizations like Oasis
Youth Center, Tacomaprobono, and the TPCBA.
• Service to Diversity Award: James Bates was celebrated
for his efforts in the Tacomaprobono Clinic and mentoring
marginalized communities.
• Distinguished Service Award: Dolores K. Sarandos was
recognized for her work in dependency representation and
her unwavering commitment to ensuring that children and
families receive the support they need.
• Service to the Legal Profession: James A. Cathcart’s
dedication to mediating and helping families through legal
challenges was acknowledged, earning him the Service to the
Legal Profession Award.
Whalley Law, PLLC: A Distinguished Law Firm
The evening also honored Whalley Law, PLLC with the
Distinguished Law Firm Award. This firm has gone above
and beyond to integrate community service into their
practice, organizing events such as the Great Eggventure
and Summer Fun Fest, and contributing to numerous local
causes and organizations. Their efforts exemplify how a
law firm can make a tangible difference in the community.
The Robert J. Bryan Inn of Court Civility Award was
presented by Eric Gilman to Michelle Luna.
A Historic Recognition: Lincoln Award
The Lincoln Day Banquet also honored individuals who have
dedicated 50 years to the legal profession with the Lincoln
Award. Robert E. Mack, Richard H. Benedetti, Danny E.
Lazares and Zenon P. Olbertz were acknowledged for their
remarkable careers and their lasting impact on the legal
community.
Acknowledging Leadership Transitions and Closing
As Catherine Case’s term as President concluded, Elizabeth
Johnson took over the gavel, officially becoming the 2025
TPCBA President. Johnson expressed heartfelt gratitude for
Case’s leadership.
The evening concluded with the announcement of the 2025
Convention theme and location with a little 'skit.' See you all
October 10-12 at Skamania Lodge. The theme is "Wizard of Oz"
("The Wiz" and "Wicked" are also applicable).
