That art was on full display throughout our retreat. What we
uncovered was not only a shared vision but also a willingness to
step up and make that vision a reality.
It’s easy to have dreams and ideals, but this meeting focused
on the next step, whether big or small, that could move us
forward and effect real change. I’m so grateful for our amazing
and talented Board this year, our incredible members, and the
strong leadership we have with our judicial officers. Together,
we have everything we need to make a lasting difference for
Pierce County. I honestly feel like this organization runs itself
on sheer passion and caffeine—and I get to sit at the feet of the
masters and learn. Thank you all for your support, your energy,
and your belief in what we’re building together.
By the time this article is published, we will have proudly sworn
in the February 2025 class of new and young lawyers. At the
ceremony, our liaisons from the Pierce County Minority Bar
Association, QLaw, and Washington Women Lawyers will
have spoken—highlighting not only our strong local spirit but
also the vital presence and encouragement of our affinity bar
associations. We’re grateful for their words of welcome and
wisdom.
We’re also thrilled that the Pierce County Minority Bar
Association will have hosted another impactful Youth in Law
Forum, continuing to inspire future generations of Pierce
County attorneys and leaders in our profession.
And the momentum continues! We’ve still got fantastic events
on the horizon, including the New and Young Lawyers Annual
Event, the ever-entertaining "Love Stinks" CLE, and of course,
our annual Bar Convention in Skamania this October—where
we fully intend to defy gravity and have a wicked good time.
A huge shout-out to my fellow Board members—Nina
Caldwell, Cathie Case, Laura Groves, Michelle Luna, Brad
Hashimoto, Sven Nelson, Jessica Campbell, Jason Johnson,
David Snell, Desiree Hosannah, John Cummings, Christy
McKinley, Carlos Sosa, and Brenna Quinlan. Your vision,
enthusiasm, experience, and unwavering commitment uplift
me, sharpen me, and inspire me. I feel incredibly lucky to learn
from all of you, and I can’t believe how fast this year is flying by.
Can we petition to slow the calendar down a bit?
This experience reminded me that while organizations often
have a singular leader, it is truly the group—the ones who roll
up their sleeves and invest their time, energy, and hearts—that
gets the work done. I am awed and inspired to be part of this
team: one that is wise, thoughtful, passionate about our legal
work, and united in our commitment to building a better future
for our members and our community.
Here’s to more connection, impact and community.
