FACULTY OF HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES
DEPARTMENT: HUMAN SCIENCES SECTION: SOCIAL WORK
I herewith declare that, I identify with, the principles of the social work profession. I believe
that, each individual is unique. I believe, in the potential of every human being, and in her
or his development, towards full self-actualization. I believe that, the person in need, has a
rightful claim to assistance.
In rendering service, I commit myself to maintain:
• Respect for the people with whom I work;
• Confidentiality concerning information at my disposal, because of my position of trust;
• Acceptance of each human being
• The right of each individual to self-determination, in order to exercise her or his freedom
with responsibility;
• The possibility that each individual, can function independently, and therefore should be
assisted towards self-help.
I promise to behave, in a dignified manner, in accordance with the ethical code of the Social
Work Profession. It is my honor, to contribute actively to the enrichment of social work practice,
through my knowledge and unique abilities. Above all, I wish to contribute, to the realization
of effective service delivery, and human enrichment.
TEACHER’S ACT OF DEDICATION
FACULTY OF EDUCATION
On the eve of my admission to the teaching profession, I solemnly declare that I shall strive to
fulfil my duty in the high calling of the teaching profession.
I realize that I shall work with the most precious possession of our country – our children, and
that the quality of education in this country is mainly determined by the teacher. I promise
that I will fulfil my duties in a responsible manner and to assist the learners, in co-operation with
the parents and the community, to become responsible and independent citizens who will
also maintain high moral standards.
I shall furthermore strive to create a sense of national pride
which will encourage the learners to become loyal citizens
of the Republic of Namibia.
I promise to be loyal to my colleagues and to those in authority without surrendering
professional responsibility to the learners. As a member of the teaching profession, I shall
strive to keep abreast of all academic thought and development, and through my personal
conduct and attitude, enhance the image of the profession.
