The Order of the Tu BiShvat Seder
Food made from wheat and barley have their own blessing (תוֹנוֹז ְמ),
as does wine (ן ֶפָגּ ַה). Because wheat and barley are mentioned
first in the Torah, their produce precedes wine in the order.
Then, the order of eating the fruits which share a blessing (ץ ֵע ָה)
is established by their proximity to the word “ץ ֶר ֶא”. The first
and second items after the second “ץ ֶר ֶא” are eaten before the
third, fourth and fifth items mentioned after the first “ץ ֶר ֶא”.
Consequently, the order of the Tu BiShvat Seder is wheat,
barley, wine, olives, dates, grapes, figs and pomegranates.
