our approach
Design Methodology
Throughout the design process, MacIntosh Engineering relies on practical engineering design, comprehensive knowledge of applicable
codes and familiarity with construction techniques to develop creative, unique design solutions. These skills are supplemented with
the latest design & drafting hardware/software (REVIT, RAM Structural System, ADAPT, AutoCAD, etc.) to provide high quality
and cost-effective system designs. The experience gained through design work performed directly for contractors is incorporated into
each design, ensuring ease of construction.
Project Delivery
MacIntosh Engineering is experienced with all methods of project delivery. We are comfortable with the conventional bid process,
but particularly enjoy the pace and enthusiasm of the fast track and design-build methods of delivery. We commonly are requested
to prepare accelerated foundation concrete and steel packages and can successfully support even the most ambitious of construction
schedules.
Structural Engineering
Design - Structural design is the core of our business and the expertise that drives all of our efforts. We pride ourselves on our skill
and ability to produce creative, practical and economical designs to suit the specific needs of each client and project.
Value Engineering - Our clients appreciate our extensive experience with a wide range of structural systems and applications.
When we are asked to provide a “fresh look” at projects with budgetary issues, we can suggest and quickly explore more economical
options and assist contractors and owners in evaluating alternatives to get their projects back on track.
Building Component Design - An exciting and expanding sector of our practice is the design of building components
directly for subcontractors. Components include miscellaneous metals, structural steel, concrete, post-tensioned concrete, pre-cast
concrete wall panels and light gage steel framing. Our familiarity with these materials is incorporated into constructability aspects
and detailing for all of our projects.
Quality Control - MacIntosh Engineering uses our “Four Quarter System” to monitor project assurance/quality control.
This system of checks and balances at each step of the design and construction process ensures the highest quality finished product.
• During the Project Kick-Off phase, a kick-off guide and design criteria sheet are completed to
establish the project scope, design parameters and code requirements.
• During the design phase of the project, structural drawing checklists are used to ensure
completeness of the documents.
• Prior to the bid/construction document issue, all drawings are independently reviewed again for
accuracy, completeness and constructability by senior staff.
