Lincoln’s Inn.
She returned home and was admitted as an Attorney of the TCI Supreme
Court in December 2002 and later set up her own practice, Quelch Missick
and Associates as manager and sole proprietor with a specialty in family law,
conveyancing, and dispute resolution. During this time, she became actively
engaged in the OECS Family Law revision and took on the role as an advocate
for families and was very instrumental in starting the process of rewriting
the laws affecting women and children, especially in the area of domestic
violence and for the protection of children.
She continued in her outreach efforts and became very involved in
highlighting the problem of domestic violence and violence against women
and children in general and took on the role as President of the Domestic
Violence Foundation. She continued in her efforts to bring this problem to
the forefront by hosting a television show called “FOCUS” and later, as a
member of the AIDS Awareness Foundation, aired a weekly show called AIDS:
EVERYBOD”Y’S BUSINESS.
Mrs. Quelch Missick was later given the task, tasked by Honorable Premier
Michael Misick, to set up the Turks and Caicos Human Rights Commission.
The HRC, under her leadership, provided outreach education and became a
voice for the voiceless who felt their rights were being trampled upon. She
became an advocate and fought for the rights of children to be allowed into
the schools in spite of their nationality; they had a right to an education,
and for all children being born within the country to receive a copy of their
birth certificates, among other notable achievements during her tenure. She
continued in her advocacy efforts and saw the Domestic Violence Legislation,
among other family laws, come into force.
Between 2009 and 2012, Mrs. Quelch-Missick was selected by His Excellency
Governor Weatherall to serve as a member of the Advisory Council during
the suspension of the TCI Constitution and was selected as a delegate to
represent the TCI at the 2011 Constitutional talks held at the Foreign and
Commonwealth Office in London. This 2011 Constitution remained in effect
until late 2024.
In 2017, after nine years with the Human Rights Commission, she continued in
her work on a two-year secondment as Change Manager for the Department
of Social Services and provided advice and support for the Safeguarding of
Children initiative handed down by the UK and the accompanying laws for
the Care and Protection of children.
Presently serving as President of the Labour Tribunal and the first Attorney
at Law to take up the position, she is still fighting for the rights of employers
and employees.
In recognizing her work in human rights, she received the prestigious award
of Member of the British Empire [MBE]. She was joined by her family and
attended Buckingham Palace to receive the honor in person from the late
Queen Elizabeth II. She is also a Justice of the Peace.
She is married to Honorable Matthew Stubbs and is the mother of three
children and one grandchild, Adin Charles Ariel Missick; he is away at A-Level
College.
